This news article discusses a guilty verdict of a father and son from Toledo, Ohio that took place last week. The father and son were accused and then convicted of raping their teenage relative. The father is being sentenced to life without parole and the son received 68 years to life. They were found guilty of rape, kidnaping, and child endangering. During the trial, both men denied the abuse of the young girl, now 14. The young girl was found last May after she escaped both men.
This girl endured unimaginable circumstances but was able to escape and seek help. She testified at court and stated that she was left to live with the men when her mother moved to Nevada at age 7. She said she was forced to stay in the basement and was only permitted out to use the restroom or shower. Officers on the scene said they found tools used to shackle the girl as well as a bucket that appeared to be where she would use the restroom.

Wow, such a horrific story! This girl seems to be extremely brave to have the ability to testify in court after these unthinkable circumstances have happened to her. It sad that she had to be put through these circumstances for the past 7 years. I wonder if there were any signs of this happening all the years that could have been noticed by someone else (family member, neighbor, etc.).
ReplyDeleteI recently saw this article on the Yahoo homepage top stories. I was so horrified by the title that I couldn't get myself to open the article and read it. The resilience of the young girl is incredible. I had chills reading the article. It is horrific what happened to those children. I hope that she is able to find some sort of peace in her adult life.
ReplyDeleteThis girl is so incredibly brave! Can you imagine what it would have been like for her to live through this dehumanizing experience and still be able to face these monsters in court?! Did you happen to see the earlier article that reported these men were defending themselves with some Biblical rationale that made what they did okay? I also can't believe they thought a judge would even consider "reuniting" them with their family? How would that be healthy?
